The Peter Rooney Fund was established by Peter's parents and a group known as the "Friends of Peter Rooney". The purpose of the Fund is to preserve Peter's memory and the love and support given to him in his 5 1/2 year battle with leukemia.

Many thousands of dollars were raised to enable Peter to receive a bone marrow transplant. Although the transplant was a medical success, Peter's marrow never matured. Peter lost his courageous battle, and died July 17, 1995, one month before his 10th birthday.

In the memory and courageous spirit of Peter, THE PETER ROONEY FUND was created to assist Alaskan families with children between birth and eighteen (18) years of age who are dealing with life threatening illnesses, and, who may be in need of financial assistance.

In addition to direct medical costs, families are frequently faced with:

  • personal expenses associated with the illness;
  • lost wages;
  • travel expenses; and
  • sibling care.

The hope of the Peter Rooney Fund is to perpetuate Peter's memory by reaching out to help others in the same generosity of spirit shown to Peter and his family.
